Herbal remedies for illnesses

When herbs are used for combating illnesses, they are often combined to give the user the benefits of each herb, as well as boost the other herbs in the body. Although there are many different combinations that can be used, some of the more popular herbal combinations are listed below. The herbal combinations can be used in any form, including teas, tinctures, and capsules. When measuring the blend of herbs, you should use equal parts of each herb with equal parts of the booster herbs.

It is important to remember the following key points if you are taking herbs for healing benefits: 

• A proper diet is very important in the herbal healing process.

• The herbal combinations are not meant to be used in the place of a doctor’s advice.

• Herbs should not be taken over a long period of time or daily because the body may build up an immunity to the herb or cause marked side effects.

• Herbs are medicine and should always be treated as such.

When antibiotic herbs or prescription antibiotics, the natural bacteria in our digestive system is destroyed, it can make digestion difficult for several days to several weeks. In order to combat this, you should eat fresh, real yogurt daily or take acidophilus or probiotic capsules to restore the natural digestive bacteria into your body.

When using an herb or herbal combination, you should start with a small amount, and then wait a few hours to make sure you are not going to have an adverse reaction. If there are any signs of any adverse reactions, stop ingestion of the herbs.

The following is not a complete list of herbal remedies. It is simple a small selection with general ideas for cures of common ailments. The list is not meant to diagnose symptoms of any kind, its purpose is to inform you of some herbal remedies available. Individual body type and medical history may dictate a need for combinations that are different than the ones listed.

Herbs Used: Yucca, comfrey, Alfalfa, Yarrow, Cayenne, Lobelia, burdock, Chaparral, Black cohosh, Cat’s Claw, and Lemon Grass

Other Uses: bursitis, rheumatism, gout, and blood cleanser

 

COLDS

Herbs Used: Chamomile, Slippery Elm, Cayenne, Goldenseal, Myrrh, Peppermint, Sage, Lemon Grass, Rose Hips, and Garlic

Other Uses: bronchitis, ear infections, fevers, flu, tonsillitis

 

CONSTIPATION

Herbs Used: Aloe Vera, Slippery Elm, and Barberry

Other Uses: cleansing, colon

 

ENERGY

Herbs Used: Cayenne, Ginseng, and Gotu Kola

Other Uses: endurance, fatigue, and memory

 

FEMALE PROBLEMS

Herbs Used: Black Cohosh, Ginger, Raspberry Leaf, Blessed Thistle, and Dong Quai

Other Uses: hormonal balance, vaginal problems, and uterine infections

 

HEARTBURN

Herbs Used: Anise Seed, Fennel Seed, Peppermint, Cinnamon, and Lavender

 

INFECTIONS

Herbs Used: Pau d’ Arco, Echinacea, Burdock, Spirulina, Kelp, and Cat’s Claw

MEMORY

MENOPAUSE

Herbs Used:  Black Cohosh, Licorice, False Unicorn, Ginseng, Squaw Vine, and Blessed Thistle.

Other Uses:  hormone imbalance, menstrual problems, hot flashes, and uterine problems

 

NERVES

Herbs Used:  Black Cohosh, Cayenne, Valerian, Ginger, St. Johns Wort, Hops, and Wood Betony

Other Uses:  headaches, anxiety, and stress

 

REDUCING WEIGHT

Herbs Used:  Chickweed, Licorice, Safflower, Echinacea, Black Walnut, Hawthorn, Papaya, Fennel, and Dandelion

Other Uses:  energy and cleanser

 

SORE THROAT

Herbs Used:  Marshmallow, and Fenugreek

Alternate:  Cayenne, Ginger mixed with honey and lemon
